An Ode to Dr. Laura

Dear Dr. Laura,

As a long time listener and avid reader of your books you've helped me become a better person. Here is a poem I wrote to thank you! - Kathy

An Ode to Dr. Laura

In this season where we pause, and show our gratitude
I thank you Dr. Laura, for my new attitude!
30 years as a wife, and the mother of four,
Your no nonsense approach, has strengthened my core.

Tuning in to your show, I get smarter each day,
Often scribbling notes, of the important things you say.
Now armed with the knowledge, to live a good life,
It’s amazing how small changes, can decrease future strife.

Doing the right thing is easier said than done.
Especially in our culture, so focused on personal fun.
So here is the proof, from my 4 kid’s mom,
Of advice from your show, and DrLaura.com.

I relay your stories, every chance that I get,
From warm baby birds to success is just past splatt.
When my husband comes home, burdened with stress,
I lead him to the bath, where I help him undress.

And if our world needs a rocking, it helps me to know,
I might be in neutral, but I’m still good to go!
On the occasions my challenging in-laws, I greet,
I am learning to be, adorable and sweet.

When dealing with the pain, of things I can’t control,
I choose piano, poetry and fitness, to rejuvenate my soul.

And when I get sucked, into one child’s drama,
I remind myself, I have three other kids to Mama.
When faced with sudden grief, I have to let it be,
10 push ups, a warm shower, then some Chamomile tea!

And when my mind insists, on creating fantasy,
I’ve found the strength to accept the facts, of truth and reality.
When looking for approval of the boyfriend at the door,
We’re onboard if he treats her like a lady, not a whore!

If a shack up is the pathway, when deciphering a mate,
They’re on their own for planning, and deciding on a date.
Choosing wisely after 18 months, is what we do suggest,
Then take the time for counseling, don’t create a stressful mess.

You’ve made me really focus, on the meaning of our vows,
A commitment made for life, not convenience for how we feel now.
Your books have been so helpful, by making me aware,
10 Stupid Things, Shark Attacks, and Feeding with Proper Care.

A stay at home Mom, I look to those years, with gratitude and pride,
What other job could be more vital, than at my 4 kids' sides.
Fulfillment was found in the simplest of things, and being there to see,
4 little lives, growing each day, and happy to be near me!

The nest now empty, warmth comes from my spouse, the birds have flown away.
The words from your show, will continue to guide, as I make the most of each day!
