Learning the Gift of Love

When I was a little girl the first thing I remember about my father was how close he was to my mom. I remember a lot of hugs and kisses and quiet laughter between them.  When they needed to discuss a problem about us kids, finances or a personal issue, they would sit at the small table in our tiny kitchen drinking their tea and coffee, and again quietly talk it out. I never felt scared or afraid as a kid that my parents would ever split up, because of the always quiet intimacy that went on between them.  They both were so committed to each other and their family.  They were my first example of true love, and I remember in later years after our mom died, I thanked my dad for giving us the gift of loving our mother the way he did.
