Damsels in Distress

Dear Dr. Laura,

My husband and I have a fabulous marriage and four good sons--our youngest is 19. When he was home this summer after his freshman year in college, he told me about a troubled young lady he cared about and tried to rescue. I quoted you, of course, and said that when he rescues a damsel in distress, all he will ever get is a distressed damsel! At this age, a mother can only HOPE some of what she says sinks in....well THIS did! Our son just wrote a song about leaving this girl and even used your quote--here are some of the lyrics--thought it would make your day, as it did mine!

Thinking of you--so grateful YOU have helped us raise four boys into REAL men, while still being a boyfriend/girlfriend to each other.

Ever-listening on the podcast--with warmest regards,

Nancy

THE LAST GOODBYE

by Andrew

I said goodbye for the last time

But you would never let me be

You held on to me

Like a child to my knee

Begging please don't leave me with nothing

I tried the best that I could

Yet you'd never turn yourself away

From your old past

Yet I knew it'd never last

So I'm done. I'm giving up trying

Our time is over

It's fallen apart

You think what's best for me

Is breaking my heart?

I've gotten over you

And I'll never lie

For when I tell you

It's the last goodbye

I gave you all my life

You were my entire world

Diamonds and pearls

And Flowers for my girl

Turned to dust and left me with nothing

So let this be a lesson for you

Don't rescue damsels in distress

Cause if you do

What's in store for you

Is just a distressed damsel

Our time is over

It's fallen apart

You think what's best for me

Is breaking my heart?

I've gotten over you

And I'll never lie

For when I tell you

It's the last goodbye
