The Most Important Decision I Made
05/07/2012

I have been a stay-at-home mom for the last 11 years. I had a good prestigious job at a prestigious institution. My husband and I had decided when the baby arrived I would quit my job. That is exactly what I did. This was the most important decision I made and I don't have an ounce of regret. My husband and I both agreed no day care provider would be able to provide the love and care I could give to our daughter.

My daughter is in middle school now but everyone sees the difference it has made in her personality and her level of self confidence. She is the best student in her class and is liked by her teachers. I have given her all the attention I could and tried to raise her with the best religious and moral values. Yes, we have less money to spend but neither my husband nor I are materialistic. We are teaching our daughter to also be less materialistic and more spiritual.

I know sometimes necessity drives women to leave their children in day care, but it really boggles my mind when women go to work and leave their children in the care of others because they want to fulfill their own desires. I was taken by surprise and sadness when I heard the story of one of my friends' sister-in-law who has two nannies to take care of her twins - one during the day when she is at work and one for the night when she needs her sleep. So why did she have these children?

I am very glad God has provided me the opportunity to be with my daughter and see her grow into a beautiful, confident, God-fearing young lady. No amount of money in the world can substitute for the treasure I have.

Thank you, Dr. Laura, for always standing for the right thing.

S.
