Recently, I received some very bad news about a friend. A year ago, she was diagnosed with lung cancer. She never smoked and was very physically active, religious, positive personality and never even used a curse word.
I called her every day as she went through surgery and chemo.
It looked like all was good. But it wasn't, and it isn't.
This cancer is aggressive, and spread even in the soup of strong chemotherapy. Now they've told her they cannot operate. She will have radiation every day for seven weeks and then be on chemo daily for the rest of her life.

After almost 30 years of following the popular phrase "be yourself and people will like you", I have finally realized that's a complete lie. What precipitated my complete change of view is that I went to a get together at a park.

If Robert Frost is right and good fences make good neighbors, are they good for families as well? The boundaries in the mother/daughter relationship are complicated because our daughters expect to be taken care of and also need to individuate.

There is only one "First Love" in each of our lives. Do you remember yours? Although it may be far in the past, most of us can still feel the excitement of that first crush. We can even feel butterflies in our stomach just thinking about that special puppy love? We usually smile when thinking about it, even though it ended, because it wasn't "real" love.
